How Your Pastors Can Minister Effectively From Home

The task will be different. Here is a break down of what your pastoral staff can invest their time on if working from home is the only option.

Investing on your people by leading online

LEAD WITH PURPOSE, BE CREATIVE AND TAKE INITIATIVE

Unlike external communication like skype, faceboo, instagram etc.  PNC is an internal online community restricted only to your church or organization.  It is more secure and personal.  It’s like turning your physical church gathering into an online community.  Also, connecting through PNC enable you monitor and measure how well your people are interacting.

So here is what you can do.

  1. Encourage your existing groups to continue their regular meetings online
  2. An opportunity to invite people who are not normally in a regular study or fellowship groups due to work and other means.  Now, you can invite them to join in this new online group.
  3. Be creative in thinking about topics and purpose that are relevant and will draw people into this online fellowship.  It could be a prayer meetings, or a sharing group about what’s happening etc.

We are created for community, to fellowship with one another as the body of Christ. Do not let Covid-19 defeat that purpose.  We can’t let Satan use this opportunity to draw us away from God and from each other.

LEAD WITH PURPOSE, BE CREATIVE AND TAKE INITIATIVE - ONLINE FORUM

We are created for fellowship, connect and interact.  Wherever we gather, people interact before, during and after.  Covid-19 has interrupted that routine.  Unlike social media, PNC has created a platform that is internally for your members to connect and INTERACT.  Here is what you can drive from home as a pastor:

  1. Be creative and think of relevant topics that will interest your target group, inviting to the conversation.  Why would they be interested in this conversation?
  2. If you start with the goal and the purpose, what you like to achieve through this conversation?  Is it informational, educational, encouraging, motivational, inspirational etc.
  3. Important to balance the topic and not too much of one thing, to avoid people withdrawing.

LEAD WITH PURPOSE, BE CREATIVE AND TAKE INITIATIVE - ONLINE EVENT

Regular events brings people together.   It brings people who are not usually come to church, not in a regular small group.  Covid-19 has interrupted that opportunity.  We can’t allow that to defeat our purpose and what we were called to do.  Here is what you can do through PNC to ensure that we can still reach out to those people who we target to connect with.  And don’t be surprise if you attendance is more than what you usually have.

  1. Organize the same event, but this time host it online.
  2. Contact your team, and set up a date and time.
  3. If need be, find a speaker and invite them to dial in on the day of the event
  4. Send invitation to your target audience and inform them of the event.
  5. On the day of the event, you know how many are expected to dial in, not including others who will dial in on the day.
  6. Everyone you invited will receive notification, even 10 minutes before it start.
  7. As a host, you start the webinar and everyone invited, including your speaker (from wherever in the world) dialing in and join the event.
  8. Be creative in how you can keep the event going, what people can do from home, the conversation, the question time etc.

LEAD WITH PURPOSE, BE CREATIVE AND TAKE INITIATIVE - ONLINE PRAYER MEETINGS

COMMUNITY PRAYER, in a time like this, is the voice of the Church, calling together; “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” – 2 Chron 7:14

  1. Create different prayer meetings environment online, host by the pastoral staff or any assigned leader.
  2. Think of your target audience, those who are at home, people who might still be in the workplace, those who are not online.
  3. Schedule the different prayer time and invite your audience by sending invitation.  On the day, whoever is available will join in and leave early if need be.
  4. Workers might be able to join in during their lunch break to the mid-day online prayer session.
  5. Imagine what is like when prayer meeting is happening in community more than ever.
  6. PRAY, PRAY, PRAY.

Quite often, when people meet together they share with each and hear each other’s need.  Covid-19 has avoided that opportunity, leaving many people to wonder how they can reached out for help when the office is closed and they can’t see their pastors at church.  An important purpose is, in some way, being defeated.  Well, there is ways you can encourage your members to reach out if they need help.  In fact, it is much more convenient and quicker.

  1. Keep reminding your people about the various options they can seek help online.
  2. Think broadly about the kind of support they need (prayer, resources, counselling, online pastor etc.)
  3. Remind them of the prayer chain always available and how they can reach use their app to sent the prayer request in desperation.

THE POWER OF THE APP

    1. Prayer Chain Enquiry is directed immediately to the Prayer Team
    2. Crisis Care Enquiry is directed immediately to the Crisis Care Team
    3. Practical Support Enquiry is directed immediately to the Practical Support Team
    4. General Enquiry is directed immediately to the Admin staff
    5. Pastoral Counselling Enquiry is directed immediately to the pastoral staff or the Pastoral Care pastor.
  2. The APP is so convenient and the quickest tool for your members to access pastoral care in time of need.  SO IMPORTANT.
